Polo
in Pinehurst began in the early 1920's when Leonard Tufts, son of the founder
of Pinehurst - James Walker Tufts, formed the first polo club in the area.
Polo was played at the historic Pinehurst Race Track and seasonal Resort guests
were entertained with weekly matches.
Polo is now played in the spring (April-June) and in the fall (September-November) at the Pinehurst Race Track on scheduled Sundays at 2:00 pm.
The Pinehurst Polo Team plays in the North Carolina Piedmont League. Occasionally teams from other leagues throughout the Southeast play in Pinehurst.
